Research narrowing

How do the Democratic and Republican positions on the "fiscal cliff" differ?  This is the question our class researched.  When we research on google we always look at the first couple links that pop and assume it is the right link for our topic.  This is not true.  There are better ways to research and to narrow your research topic down to the best choices possible.  There is a step process to searching the right way.  First, type the topic question in, and capitalise all three letters in AND in the question and search. Secondly, go to search tools all the way on the right and below that will give you the times that you want and it is best to go to past 24 hours.  The third step is to see how many results you get after you searched and try to narrow your results to even less.  To do that you need to go back to where you put the search question and exclude the results you do not want, for example, put the minus sign which means (NOT) images, pictures etc.  This will narrow your choices down.  Lastly go next to the times that you asked for and their should be a choice asking what results you want and scroll down to near by . This should narrow your choice to the minimum of 4 and that is how I did my research.

Star Wars Revenge of the Sith

Anakin’s dream is to become a Jedi and because he was “Chosen One”, he became arrogant. When his mother was killed, he chose to get revenge and destroy the village of sand people, and the Jedi do not condone this. His anger over his mother’s death leads him to down a path to the dark side. Master Yoda told him to let go of everything he fears to lose.

Since he already started to go against his Jedi training, this leads him to take further steps toward the dark side. Falling in love with Padme was easy to understand because he already had an attachment to his mother. If he had fought against his attraction to Padme, he could have had a chance of remaining a Jedi.

Palpatine built up Anakin’s confidence by praising him and making him think he could be even better than Master Yoda. Anakin was swayed by all this positive feedback, but Palpatine was just trying to manipulate him. He knew of Anakin’s weakness and took advantage by first getting him to trust him.

Anakin believed that Palpatine was his friend, and when the council denied him the rank of Jedi Master because they didn’t think he was ready, Palpatine told him it was because they didn’t trust him because they knew he was better and they feared him. Anakin believed him because he was full of anger and fear, which leads to the dark side.

When Obi-Wan told Anakin that the council wanted him to spy on Palpatine, Anakin not only felt betrayed for being denied the rank of a Master, but he felt betrayed especially by Obi-Wan, for asking him to do such a thing when Palpatine was not only a close friend of his, but the Chancellor as well. He lost trust in the Jedi after this.

Anakin’s fears about Padme’s death became his biggest weakness, and Palpatine manipulated him by taking advantage of this weakness. These weaknesses were the very reasons why the Jedi believed him not to be ready yet. Palpatine convinced him that he could help Anakin save Padme if he came over to the dark side.

As he fell further and further into the dark side, Padme confronted him and he accused her of betrayal and acted out violently using the force on her. Luckily Obi-Wan saved her, but Anakin thought shed died. He blamed Obi-Wan and fought his old master who finally cut off Anakins arm and legs and left him for dead. Torn by his grief over not only Padme, but his mother, Obi-Wan his mentor, and the loss of his limbs he becomes evil.

Prop 34

The proposition that I found most interesting is prop 34.  Prop 34 is about death penalty.  I found this most interesting because this depends on a persons life and whether or not they should still exist for taking somebody else life.  Do I believe in the death penalty?  Well I am undecided because there are pros and cons to the death penalty.

The pros of the death penalty is that it is an eye for an eye.  This means that if you kill someone, you will also be killed.  This is the part I like about the death penalty.  The cons of the death penalty is that yes the prisoner would be killed but he really would not have to suffer for anything he would just die.  As to if there wasn't any death penalty, the prisoner would have to suffer even more because he gets life in prison and the officers and the people running the prison can kind of torture the inmate and make life hard on him because he killed somebody.  These are pros and cons of the death penalty.

It is very hard to choose but if I was 18 years old, I would choose yes on the death penalty because I do believe in the phrase an eye for an eye.  I believe that the person should not have the right to live life if they take away another persons life.  This is such a hard prop to vote on because you just want a fair punishment and something that fits the crime and I personally believe the death penalty is the way to go.  So I say yes on prop 34.

The Canterbury Tales

If I had to choose a character from the Canterbury Tales, I would choose the skipper.  I would choose the skipper because he is independent for most of the time.  He is in charge of the ship and transports goods.  Skipper is like the captain, in charge and independent.  If I am a skipper, I work on a ship.  I really don't have a family life because most of the time I am by myself working.  The skipper has an interesting life and I believe that if you are independent working then you have less problems in life.

As a skipper I am in s hip most of the time.  This is my job, and I do not face too many challenges in my life because most of the time I am by myself.  My family is important but I am not around them as much as I would like to be.  I like the world around me because I can choose who I want to be around and who I don't want around me.  I do not have military training because it is not involved in my life.  Things I value in my life is my job, transferring goods and enjoying my life.  Take care of my ship and to be the best captain possible.  Plans I have to look forward in the future are retirement from hard work in my ship and to go back and be with my family after I have made enough money to buy a nice house to live in close to home.

I think a skipper fits me the most from the Canterbury Tales because I like to be independent.  I want to do things my way and have fun doing it.  As a skipper I would love to go from place to place in my ship.  I like that life, experience new places and have fun with life.  Skipper also fits me because the skipper is the captain in charge and i like to have control in what I do.  My choice is the skipper and I think that a skipper relates to me and what my plans are for the future.

My Description

The ship man tale is similar to a sailors tale.  A ship man is also known as s "skipper".  My description of a skipper is a short guy, dark hair, who is a leader and is pretty wealthy.  Skipper is focused and wants to get his job done.  Loves what he does but can be moody because he is a competitive person.  A skipper must be a leader and a leader is the captain.  The skipper of the ship is the ships boss, and is always the one in charge.  The most important quality of a skipper is that he is a leader.  He is in charge, bossy and loves challenges. This is my description of a skipper.

American Dream

Timmur Hanhan
3rd period
12 September 2012
What is your “American Dream”?  Do you want a house that is fully paid, well paid job, and a family without economically struggling?  That sure is part of my “American Dream”?  How likely is it to achieve my “American Dream” that is yet to be seen.  Times have gotten tougher, and hard to live comfortably.  “My American Dream” is to have three kids, a nice house, and able to take vacations whenever I want with my family without struggling.
“Overall the incomes earned by the graduates have dropped over the last decade by 11 percent for men and 7.6 percent for women”, stated in the article called “Generation Screwed”.  This quote describes how much income earned by kids that even graduated from college has dropped tremendously.  Yes, it is tough and you have to work hard to achieve your “American Dream”, but I believe that I can achieve it if I work hard and stay focus on my goals.  I know that I unluckily have fallen into the “generation screwed”, but this means that I have to work that much harder to pursue my dreams.  I also believe that if you get a good education that can take you far as well.
Education means everything.  These days a high school diploma cannot get you very far in life.  In order to live a life struggling you have to graduate from college.  That sounds scary doesn’t it?  My motto is you have a good education and you work hard, and then pursue your dream, because hard work pays off.  Athletic training is my dream job.  I would like to make a living out of training professional athletes or even a college team.  Athletic training makes good money but chances are slight that you will be trainer for a professional team.  I would have to start from the bottom and work my way up to get to this level but like I said, “Hard work and dedication can take you as far as you want”.  This is my plan in life to help me pursue my “American Dream”.
“A third of smart phone users go online before getting out of bed”, quoted from an article called “Icrazy”.  The use of smart phones can hurt us in achieving our “American Dream”, because I believe it can cause mental issues.  Smart Phones become a distraction.  Smart phones, laptops, and other electronic devices help us, but we also become addicted.  Addiction comes with distraction, and with that being said we always want to know what is going on with our phone, and become paranoid.  This can affect us in pursuing our dreams.
My American Dream is to own a full paid house, have three kids and graduate from college.  I am a confident person and I believe if you work hard you can do anything you put your mind to.  That being said, I am very competitive.  I want to be the best I can be and make sure the person trying to get my job is out of luck because I beat them to the spot.  I think I have all the character traits to pursue my dream and that is my goal to have the best life possible without struggling.  My confidence is high and I believe I am capable to get what I want.   .

College accemptance

Colleges that take away an entrance to their campus from seniors who allow their grades to fall, or don't take exceptional courses for college standards is a good way to keep seniors in check and pushes them to work as hard as they were working in their previous years.  Seniors seem to not work as hard, take classes that are not as relevant to a college, and they slack off.  Students that are going to college should not slack off because when it comes to senior year and you slack off, students will not be prepared for the college level.  It is a good idea for colleges to decline a student even if they got accepted because that means they took advantage and colleges don't want to see that.  Colleges want to see students that work hard from start to finish because getting into a college is very competitive and if you got accepted and the other person got declined, you never know if he would have worked harder than the student that got accepted.  It is okay for colleges to drop a student after being accepted if they do not take their senior year as serious as their other years.

Getting accepted into a college can be very competitive.  It is important that you work your hardest even though you get accepted because, colleges still have the authority to drop you even after you originally got accepted.  This is good for both colleges and students.  The reason being, colleges don't want a student unprepared for college, and students don't want to be unprepared for college after taking it easy senior year. That's why it is important to stay focused in school so you are prepared for whatever to come.

It is okay for colleges to drop a student after being accepted if they do not take their senior year as serious as their other years.  I believe that colleges should have the right to drop a student if their grades fall or they are not taking college preparation classes.  Just because you got accepted into a a college doesn't give you the right to slack off because their are other kids who would love that opportunity but got declined from that college because you possibly took that spot.  The main point is to stay focused and do not slack off and have your grades fall because colleges will and have the right to say, "sorry we have decided to drop you from our school because you have not worked hard in your senior year."  It happens and it will happen if you do slack off.

I am looking forward to many things in my senior year.  The most important events that I am excited for are basketball season and graduation.  These are my main two events that I cant wait for to come.  I am looking forward to basketball because, I have been playing for four years and I had a great time, and I want to have a good season and have fun.  Basketball is going to be fun, but more importantly is graduation.  Graduation is the day I start to realize that all my hard work payed off and I have accomplished something big in my life.  These are the two events that I am excited to experience and these are my senior highlights.
